Personal Oral Hygiene Care

Professional dental cleanings are important for maintaining optimal oral health throughout your lifetime; however, it is vital that you continue good dental hygiene practices at home as well as in between your regularly-scheduled dental visits.

Here are a few tips for keeping your teeth clean and healthy in between dental visits:

Brush your teeth well twice a day. This may seem simple, but sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones. Brushing your teeth in the morning and at night helps keep your teeth clear of food and germs that could accumulate over time and cause bigger issues down the road, such as tooth decay and other larger oral health issues. Brushing also helps keep teeth whiter longer.

Floss once a day. Flossing is a great way to ensure no unwanted food particles get stuck in between your teeth and cause cavities or swollen gums. This also helps make flossing easier when you visit your local dentist office because your gums will be used to the flossing and won’t be as sensitive during this process.

Use a toothpaste with fluoride in it. Fluoride helps protect your teeth from plaque and sugars to keep your teeth stronger and healthier. This is why we recommend a fluoride treatment every six months to a year depending on the sensitivity of your teeth. Using a toothpaste with fluoride in it can help protect your teeth even more during those months in between each dental visit.

Drinking water and maintaining a balanced diet.  Eating healthy foods and drinking plenty of water can help keep your teeth and gums strong and healthy. Limiting the amount of sugar and carbs in your diet can help contribute to good oral health while water helps clean your mouth from food particles that may stick around after a meal.
