Orthodontics
Orthodontics is the treatment of irregularities in the teeth and jaws, including the use of braces, retainers, and other forms of teeth straightening.
Crooked, misaligned teeth are harder to keep clean on a regular basis, making your teeth more prone to tooth decay and periodontal disease. While there are other ways to prevent these issues, orthodontics allows you to get to the main source of the problem and stop the issues before they ever begin.
Straight, properly-aligned teeth are easier to keep clean and keep your teeth healthier longer. They can also help avoid many oral issues that can spring up over time. In many cases, a straight smile can provide a happier, more confident appearance in those who are uncomfortable with their teeth, providing better quality of life overall.
How long will my orthodontic treatment take?
The length of your orthodontic treatment will depend on your individual needs and dental plan. During your consultation with one of our doctors, we will discuss your options for treatment. Once you select your treatment, we can then estimate how long it will take.
There are other factors that can affect the duration of your treatment. Some of these include:
INTERVENTION
If you had work done early on to prepare for orthodontics later in life, some steps have already been completed. This can fast-track your treatment and help shorten the time you will need orthodontics.
TREATMENT
Depending on your individual needs, you may have braces, elastics, aligners, retainers, Invisalign or other orthodontic treatments. Each treatment is different, so based on the treatment you need or choose, your treatment time may be shorter or longer.
INSTRUCTIONS
Following our instructions will allow your treatment to work more quickly and effectively. By not following the plan and instructions, you run the risk of extending the length of your treatment or damaging your teeth and/or braces.
